Abstract
This article presents a history of the development of the labor law that governs collective bargaining in state and local government. Comparisons are drawn with the development and current status of state with federal collective bargaining laws. Even though state and federal legislation took different historical paths the current statutes are surprisingly similar, suggesting that state legislatures recognize the consistencies between collective negotiations in the public and private sectors. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 United States License.
