Abstract
This article reviews key issues on subcontracting of work in government service. Contracting out has cut government costs and raised service levels many cases. However, it has also been sometimes associated with waste, inefficiency, and graft. Legal and contractual protections may provide public employees protection against loss of work or reduction in benefits from subcontracting. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 United States License.
