Abstract
With the expanded scope of planning and awareness of the complexity of urban systems, computer systems models can be invaluable vehicles for learning and the advancement of theory. They do not, however, represent simple means to leapfrog gaps in theory and the political process to arrive at instant solutions. Two contrasting actual modeling efforts are described to illustrate how models can be used and sometimes misused. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Attribution-Noncommercial-No Derivative Works 3.0 United States License.
