Abstract:
The success of a college of pharmacy is dependent on the quality of its graduating professional students. Paramount to the quality of the graduating students is the talent of the college's new student applicant pool. To increase the exposure of students to pharmacy education and possible career options following graduation, many colleges of pharmacy have developed outreach programs with the intent of exposing high school and preprofessional students to a career in pharmacy. This interest in capturing the attention of younger students is not limited to the professional aspects of pharmacy but includes other career options such as working in the pharmaceutical industry. The American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists has developed its own program called “Outreach: A Tour of the Pharmaceutical Sciences.” The aim of the program is to introduce secondary school faculty and students to the pharmaceutical sciences as a possible career option.
