Green Tea Promotes Increased Energy Expenditure

Arch Fam Med. 2000;9:294.

In 10 healthy young men, green tea extracts given in capsule form increased 24-hour energy expenditure by about 4%, whereas caffeine and placebo did not increase energy expenditure. There were no side effects and heart rate was not increased. The authors concluded that green tea increased fat oxidation and has thermogenic properties. (Am J Clin Nutr. 1999;70:1040-1050).
