Subclinical Hypothyroidism Associated with Atherosclerosis in Elderly Women
Arch Fam Med. 2000;9:711.
In a random sample of community living elderly women in the Netherlands, the 10.8% of those with subclinical hypothyroidism (TSH >4.0 mU/L and normal serum-free thyroxine level) had a 1.7 odds ratio (95% CI, 1.1 to 2.6) of aortic atherosclerosis and 2.3 odds ratio CI, 1.3 to 4.0) of myocardial infarction. This remained true about adjustments for known traditional risk factors for atherosclerosis. (Ann Intern Med. 2000;132:270-278).
