THE TELEVISION in the waiting room automatically turns on at 8:30 AM and turns off at 5 PM. This occurs Monday through Friday, even when the clinic is closed for a holiday and no patients are there to watch it. Like the large pink cardboard bunny holding battery coupons on top of it, the television keeps going... and going... and going.... The 27-in screen shows a 1-hour-long video disk that is repeated continuously throughout the day and is changed twice a month. The disk is described by its distributor as containing "information of real value to help [family members] with strategies and ideas for better living; tips on how to prepare for good health, not just react to bad; and insights on how real parents are experiencing the exuberation [sic] and bumps of family life."
