The goal of providing the primary care physician with a "concise illustrated clinical guide to eye disorders affecting children" is admirably achieved by B. Dhillon and G. T. Millar in The Child's Eye: Diagnosis of Ophthalmic Disorders in Children. This recent British publication should be very useful for all primary care providers either practicing or teaching in this discipline. This reference tool is easy to use, clearly and concisely written, and has superb illustrations.
The table of contents clearly delineates the scope of this small but helpful book. It is divided into sections, one of which reviews anatomy and eye function and development as well as the history and examination necessary for evaluation of children's vision problems. The first half of the book primarily deals with the evaluation of congenital and acquired abnormalities resulting in chronic problems such as poor vision and squint or strabismus.
