Unprotected intercourse or other indication for EC indicates a contraceptive accident, missed contraceptive pills, sexual assault, or exposure to a potential teratogen. New guidelines will not require follow-up with a clinician if there is no menses at 21 days; alternatives include home pregnancy testing or further waiting.
