Abstract

In this article it was hypothesized that changes in economic conditions will affect rates of improvement of salaries for beginning teachers. Economic measurements of Wisconsin's public school districts are related directly to rates of improvement of salaries for beginning teachers. The objective was to assess whether rates of improvement of salaries in small and larger-sized school districts responded similarly to changes in economic factors. The evidence suggests that expected salaries are at risk when small school districts rely on the fortunes of agriculture to sustain rates of improvement of salaries for beginning teachers in order to attract candidates.
