						<Abstract Language="En">This study utilizes discriminant analysis to determine whether the sources of impasse, situational factors, and/or attitudes toward the mediator and the mediation process predict the success of mediation in resolving impasses in the public sector in Iowa. The data were obtained from questionnaires administered to management and union negotiators in the 214 impasses reported in Iowa during 1986. The parties' attitudes toward the mediator and the mediation process, bargaining behaviors, and the economic characteristics of the negotiations predict the success of mediation for management negotiators, and attitudes toward the mediator and bargaining behavior predict the success of mediation for union negotiators in Iowa during 1986.</Abstract>
