Abstract

Comparable worth policies, or laws requiring equal pay for work of equal value, have been implemented in many countries to combat pay discrimination against women. This article analyzes Ireland's experience under the Anti-Discrimination (Pay) Act of 1974. The role of women in Irish society has presented a particularly challenging environment for a comparable worth policy.
