Abstract

The author describes the proper role of an elected official during a municipal strike. She advises officials to remain silent and uninvolved, to let the negotiating team do its work. The team should be composed of labor relations experts, not the city manager, mayor, or councilmen. The advice, while intended for municipal councilmen, is also applicable to any public employment official.
