SCHENKER Nineteen contracts between faculty unions and administrations of four-year educational institutions were examined to discern similarities and differences that can be related to the national bargaining associations (AAUP, NEA, AFT) with which locals are affiliated. Several major areas were analyzed: who is represented by the union; who represents management; the comprehensiveness of the contracts; institutional governance procedures in the contracts; merit procedures. The analysis concluded that, as expected, the differences among contracts negotiated under different national affiliations tend to reflect the ideological orientations of the nationwide organizations.
