This article describes how to construct a color-coded timeline trauma genogram (CCTTG) in order to get a larger picture of a family's trauma event(s) currently and historically. The CCTTG serves as a tool to help clients make sense of how trauma events have impacted their family's individual interactional and intergenerational structural, functional, and relational patterns, strengths, and vulnerabilities. It also serves as a valuable tool for the therapist to use in joining with clients and gathering information, and as a springboard to guide the process of therapy.
KEY WORDS: color-coded timeline trauma genogram, focused genogram, trauma, assessment tool
