Bei Varizenblutungen kann er sowohl in der akuten Blutungsphase zur Anwendung kommen, wenn medikamentöse oder endoskopische Therapieansätze versagen, aber auch in der Sekundärprophylaxe bei fortgeschrittener Leberzirrhose, wenn eine ß-Blockertherapie und endoskopische Bandligaturen rezidivierende Varizenblutungen und rezidivierenden Aszites portal-hypertensiver Genese nicht verhindern.</p>
