        <p>Das Wichtigste für die Praxis *BNP und NT-proBNP sind quantitative Biomarker der Herzinsuffizienz. Die Bestimmung von BNP und NT-proBNP wird bei allen Patienten empfohlen, die über Symptome berichten, die mit Herzinsuffizienz einhergehen können. *Ist aufgrund BNP- oder NT-proBNP-Werte eine Herzinsuffizienz als kardiale Ursache z. B. einer akuten Dyspnoe unter Berücksichtigung klinischer Parameter nicht ausgeschlossen, ist eine eingehende kardiologische Abklärung und ggf. bildgebende Untersuchung mittels Echokardiographie erforderlich. Erscheint eine Herzinsuffizienz aufgrund der niedrigen Werte unwahrscheinlich, sollten vorrangig andere, nicht-kardiale Ursachen der Dyspnoe bei diesen Patienten abgeklärt werden, z. B. eine obstruktive Lungenerkrankung. *Die Bestimmung von BNP oder NT-proBNP ist in der Primärversorgung von besonderer Bedeutung, da sie die Genauigkeit der klinischen Beurteilung der Herzinsuffizienz in der Praxis verbessert und somit die Rolle des Hausarztes im Diagnoseprozess stärkt.</p>
