      <abstract abstract-type="article" xml:lang="de">
        <p>Wir stellen hier den Fall einer 21-jähriger mit der Erstdiagnose eines Diabetes Mellitus als Folge von regelmässigen Transfusionen vor. Die Zuweisung auf unserem Notfall erfolgte bei Polyurie, Polydipsie und Gewichtsverlust.  Der Patient präsentierte sich mit einer Hyperpigmentierung (Bronze Hautfarbe), Hepatomegalie, Hypogonadismus, und ein deutlich erhöhtes Ferritinspiegel.  Retrospektiv konnten wir die Anamnese einer Beta-Thalassämie rekonstruieren.  Die Ursache des Diabetes bei unserem Patienten ist die übermässige Eisenablagerung. Eine Insulintherapie und einer Eisenchelation wurden begonnen. Dieser Fall zeigt wie wichtig es ist bei Erstdiagnose eines Diabetes Mellitus auch an alternativen Typen von Diabetes  zu denken.</p>
