Abstract

Many different disciplines assess patients with acute abdominal pain at the Emergency Department. Therefore it is important to know the diagnostic options and treatment pathways. This review summarizes the available literature on diagnostics and treatment in patients with abdominal pain. Figure 2 gives a figure about the pathways. As not all topics have sufficient evidence to draw firm conclusions due to lack of literature in some areas, this review was based on best available international evidence and is therefore applicable as a reference guideline for clinicians who treat patients with acute abdominal pain.
