      <abstract abstract-type="article" xml:lang="de">
        <p>Die Eosinophile Oesophagitis (EoE) ist eine chronisch entzündliche Erkrankung der Speiseröhre mit enger Assoziation zu atopischen Erkrankungen, weshalb auch im Hinblick auf das eosinophile Entzündungsmuster und zahlreichen klinisch/epidmiologischen Parallelen gelegentlich die Umschreibung «Das Asthma der Speiseröhre» verwendet wird. Ursprünglich ging man von einer seltenen Erkrankung (orphan disease) aus, wohingegen sich gezeigt hat, dass bei deutlich steigender Inzidenz, welche nicht nur auf eine vermehrte Achtsamkeit für diese Erkrankung zurückzuführen ist, ähnliche Häufigkeiten, wie bei anderen häufigeren immunvermittelten Erkrankungen zu beobachten sind. Noch immer allerdings wird die Erkrankung oft nicht frühzeitig erkannt. Neben Gastroenterologen werden nicht selten Hausärzte, Allgemeininternisten, Pneumologen, Otorhinolaryngologen und Allergologen/Dermatologen als erstes konsultiert. In den letzten Jahren wurden entscheidende Fortschritte im Krankheitsverständnis und therapeutischen Ansätzen dieser noch jungen Erkrankung gemacht. So wurde vor wenigen Jahren ein erstes Präparat überhaupt in der Indiktation EoE zur topischen Therapie zugelassen. Gleichzeitig befinden sich zahlreiche topische und systemische Therapie-Ansätze in Entwicklung.</p>
