<curatorial-note>A. viscosus, for which no 16S rRNA gene sequence was previously available, is most closely related to members of the genus Rhizobium, e.g. Rhizobium gallicum (98·1 % 16S rRNA gene sequence similarity), Rhizobium mongolense (98·0 %) and Rhizobium leguminosarum (97·6 %). This is not unexpected, as Keddie et al. (1986) stated that the chemotaxonomic data for this species were in accordance with the view that it is indeed a Gram-negative rod.
