Takeuchi et al. 2001 proposed the division of the genus Sphingomonas. According to them, Blastomonas ursincola is a new combination with the basonym of Sphingomonas ursincola.

Yabuuchi et al. 2002 (rid.6746) are of the opinion that the genus Sphingomonas should not be divided into different genera as proposed by Takeuchi et al. 2001. 

Since the the new genus names and new combinations resulting from the division of Sphingomonas have been validly published, they have standing in nomenclature. 

The difference in taxonomic opinion, leads to a homotypic synonymy between Blastomonas ursincola and Sphingomonas ursincola.

Yabuuchi et al. 1999 (rid.4631) proposed to transfer the species Blastomonas natatoria and Erythromonas ursincola to the genus Sphingomonas. 
This effectively deletes the genera Blastomonas  and Erythromonas since B. natatoria  and E. ursincola were the only species in the respective genera (and the type species). 
The new combinations were published in Microbiology and Immunology and on Validation List no. 70.

Hiraishi et al. 2000 (rid.4321) essentially reverse the taxonomic changes made by Yabuuchi et al. 1999. They retain the genus Blastomonas, transfer E. ursincola to Blastomoas as B. ursincola and give an emended description of B. natatoria.</curatorial-note>
