    <public-note>Readers are advised that there have been differing views about the taxonomy of Sphingomonas, Sphingobium, Novosphingobium and Sphingopyxis in the past. We choose to disregard the assertions of Yabuuchi et al. 2002 that species of the latter three genera are homotypic synonyms of Sphingomonas. That is a given since those genera were formed on new combinations in which species of Sphingomonas are the basonyms.
