Bacillus pallidus Zhou et al. 2008 is illegitimate, in accordance with rule 53 of the Bacteriological Code, because it is a later homonym of Bacillus pallidus Scholz et al. 1988. Zhou et al. 2009 "temporarily" describe Falsibacillus pallidus as a new combination, but recognize the fact that this designation is controversial. Falsibacillus pallidus can not be a new combination, because Bacillus pallidus Zhou et al. 2008 has no standing in nomenclature and thus can not serve as the basonym for Falsibacillus palidus. The name Falsibacillus pallidus is acceptable under the code as a new name; Falsibacillus pallidus nom. nov.
