    <public-note>This taxon was the result of elevating the subfamily Thiocapsaceae (sic) Migula 1894 to the rank of family in the Eubacteria (NVP) - Thiobacteria (NVP) - Rhodo-Thiobacteria (NVP). Between 1924 and 1930 (Bergey's Third Edition), Thiocapsaceae (Bavendamm 1924) fell out of use in preference to the tribe Thiocapseae (Buchanan 1918) in the Rhodobacteriaceae. Between 1934 (Bergey's Fourth Edition) and 1948 (Bergey's Sixth Edition) the tribe and/or family had been unified into the taxon Thiorhodaceae (Molisch 1907), which was illegitimate because the name of the taxon was not based on its nomenclatural type, Thiocapsa. Although Thiocapsaceae has priority over Chromatiaceae, the name Chromatiaceae was proposed for conservation, effectively unifying Thiocapsaceae into Chromatiaceae.</public-note>
