    <curatorial-note>TODO (parker): Use this text to generate unification sentences in the abstracts: Ludwig et al. 1993 combined the species Thiosphaera pantotropha and Paracoccus denitrificans into a sings species (P. denitrificans) making them heterotypic synonyms and unifying the genera Thiosphaera and Paracoccus.

Rainey et al. 1999. re-evaluated the synonymy and separated the two taxa moving the strains originally designated as T. pantotropha to a new name, Paracoccus pantotrophus comb.nov.
