Nomenclatural History

The genus Jannaschia was originally proposed and validly published by Wagner-Döbler et al. 2003. Pujalte et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of
Thalassobacter Macián et al. 2005 emend. Pujalte et al. 2005
in 2005.
This taxon was not designated as a member of any higher taxon by the original authors. However, the nearest phylogenetic neighbors are all members of the family Rhodobacteraceae.
