Nomenclatural History
The genus Ruegeria was originally proposed by Uchino et al. 1998. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 68 in 1999. Martens et al. published an emended description of this genus in 2006. Subsequent emendations were proposed by Yi et al. in 2007 and Wirth and Whitman in 2018. Yi et al. transferred the members of Petursdottir and Kristjansson 1999 into this genus in 2007.
