Nomenclatural History
The species Ruegeria atlantica was originally described by Uchino et al. 1998. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 68 in 1999. Yi et al. published an emended description of this species in 2007. Subsequent emendations were proposed by Muramatsu et al. in 2007, Vandecandelaere et al. in 2008 and Hördt et al. in 2020. Uchino et al. formed this name in 1998 by placing the species Rüger and Höfle 1992 into the genus Uchino et al. 1999 emend. Wirth and Whitman 2018.
