The species Sphingomonas chlorophenolica was originally described by Nohynek et al. 1995. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 57 in 1996. In 2001, Takeuchi et al. established Sphingomonas chlorophenolica as the basonym of
Sphingobium chlorophenolicum (Nohynek et al. 1996) Takeuchi et al. 2001 emend. Hördt et al. 2020
