Nomenclatural History	The species Methanobrevibacter arboriphilus was originally described by Balch et al. 1979. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 6 in 1981. Asakawa et al. corrected this name from Methanobrevibacter arboriphilicus (sic) to Methanobrevibacter arboriphilus . Balch et al. formed this name in 1979 by placing the species Methanobacterium arbophilicum Zeikus and Henning 1975 (Approved Lists 1980) into the genus Methanobrevibacter Balch and Wolfe 1981.
