The species Sphingomonas sanguinis was originally described by Takeuchi et al. 1993. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 47 in 1993. Trüper and de' Clari corrected this name from (sic) to . Hördt et al. published an emended description of this species in 2020.
