The species Sphingomonas terrae was originally described by Takeuchi et al. 1993. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 47 in 1993. In 2001, Takeuchi et al. established Sphingomonas terrae as the basonym of
Sphingopyxis terrae (Takeuchi et al. 1993) Takeuchi et al. 2001 emend. Hördt et al. 2020
