The species Sphingomonas wittichii was originally described and validly published by Yabuuchi et al. 2001. Kim et al. published an emended description of this species in 2015. In 2020, Hördt et al. established as the basonym of (Yabuuchi et al. 2001) Hördt et al. 2020 .
