Nomenclatural History
The species Novosphingobium subterraneum was originally described and validly published by Takeuchi et al. 2001. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 81 in 2008. List Editor corrected this name from (sic) to . Hördt et al. published an emended description of this species in 2020. Takeuchi et al. formed this name in 2001 by placing the species Balkwill et al. 1997 into the genus Takeuchi et al. 2001.
