Nomenclatural History
This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 88 in 2002. The species Porphyrobacter sanguineus was originally described by Ahrens and Rheinheimer 1967. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 2002 the name was revived by Hiraishi et al.. In 2020, Xu et al. established as the basonym of (Hiraishi et al. 2002) Xu et al. 2020 .
