The species Sphingopyxis alaskensis was originally described and validly published by Godoy et al. 2003. Godoy et al. formed this name in 2003 by placing the species
Sphingomonas alaskensis Vancanneyt et al. 2001
into the genus Sphingopyxis Takeuchi et al. 2001 emend. Hördt et al. 2020.
