Nomenclatural History
This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 31 in 1989. The species Caulobacter variabilis was originally described by Poindexter 1964. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1989 the name was revived by Poindexter. In 1999, Abraham et al. established as the basonym of (Poindexter 1989) Abraham et al. 1999 .
