Nomenclatural History
The genus Rhizobium was originally proposed by Frank 1889. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. This name was placed onto the nomina taxorum conservanda by Judicial Opinion 34 in 1970. Young et al. published an emended description of this genus in 2001. Jarvis et al. established this name as an earlier heterotypic synonym of Chen et al. 1988 emend. Kuzmanović et al. 2022 in 1992. Young et al. transferred the members of Conn 1942 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Sawada et al. 1993 into this genus in 2001. Young et al. transferred the members of de Lajudie et al. 1998 emend. Hördt et al. 2020 into this genus in 2001.
