Nomenclatural History	The species Rhizobium meliloti was originally described by Dangeard 1926. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. This name was placed onto the nomina taxorum conservanda by Judicial Opinion 34 in 1970. In 1994, De Lajudie et al. established Rhizobium meliloti as the basonym of Sinorhizobium meliloti (Dangeard 1926) De Lajudie et al. 1994 .
