The species Agrobacterium meteori was originally described and validly published by Rüger and Höfle 1992. Uchino et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of Rüger and Höfle 1992 in 1998. In 2020, Hördt et al. established as the basonym of (Rüger and Höfle 1992) Hördt et al. 2020 .
