The species Ensifer kummerowiae was originally described and validly published by Young 2003. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 81 in 2008. Young formed this name in 2003 by placing the species
Sinorhizobium kummerowiae Wei et al. 2002
into the genus Ensifer Casida 1982 emend. Kuzmanović et al. 2022.
