Nomenclatural History
The genus Sinorhizobium was originally proposed and validly published by Chen et al. 1988. This name was affected by Judicial Opinion 84 in 2008. De Lajudie et al. published an emended description of this genus in 1994. A subsequent emendation was proposed by Kuzmanović et al. in 2022. Jarvis et al. established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of Frank 1889 (Approved Lists 1980) emend. Young et al. 2001 in 1992. Judicial Commission of the International Committee on Systematics of Prokaryotes established this name as a later heterotypic synonym of Casida 1982 emend. Kuzmanović et al. 2022 in 2008.

Judicial Opinion 84 rendered this genus name Not Validly Published, since it resulted from moving the type species of Ensifer into a novel genus. Kuzmanovic et al. 2021 corrected this problem and the genus is once again legitimate.
