Nomenclatural History

The genus Brucella was originally proposed by Meyer and Shaw 1920. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. Brinley-Morgan and McCullough published an emended description of this genus in 1974. Hördt et al. transferred the members of
Ochrobactrum Holmes et al. 1988
into this genus in 2020.
