The genus Defluvibacter was originally proposed by Fritsche et al. 1999. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 71 in 1999. Kämpfer et al. transferred the members of this genus into
Aquamicrobium Bambauer et al. 1998 emend. Wu et al. 2014
in 2009.
