Nomenclatural History
The genus Methylocystis was originally proposed by Whittenbury et al. 1970. It pre-dated the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names but was excluded from those lists. In 1993 the name was revived and validly published by Bowman et al.. Dedysh et al. published an emended description of this genus in 2007. A subsequent emendation was proposed by Belova et al. in 2013.
