The species Beijerinckia fluminensis was originally described by Döbereiner and Ruschel 1958. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980.

The type strain of this species is the subject of a pending Request for an Opinion (Unpublished Opinion 104). The authors have requested that a neotype be proposed, but do not do so, themselves.
