The species Bradyrhizobium japonicum was originally described and validly published by Jordan 1982. Hördt et al. published an emended description of this species in 2020. Jordan formed this name in 1982 by placing the species
Rhizobium japonicum (Kirchner 1896) Buchanan 1926 (Approved Lists 1980)
into the genus Bradyrhizobium Jordan 1982.
