Nomenclatural History
The genus Rhodopseudomonas was originally proposed by Czurda and Maresch 1937. This name appeared on the Approved Lists of Bacterial Names 1980. This name was placed onto the nomina taxorum conservanda by Judicial Opinion 49 in 1974. van Niel published an emended description of this genus in 1944. Subsequent emendations were proposed by Pfennig and Trüper in 1974 and Imhoff et al. in 1984.
