The species Methanococcus frisius was originally described by Blotevogel et al. 1986. This name became validly published when it appeared on Validation List No. 22 in 1986. In 1989, Blotevogel and Fischer established as the basonym of (Blotevogel et al. 1986) Blotevogel and Fischer 1989 .
